ModusBill vs MyCase
MyCase is built for small firms that want the whole practice in one place: case files, calendar, documents, a client portal, intake and billing. ModusBill is the billing and trust accounting part alone, for firms whose problem is the money side — trust compliance, e-billing and getting invoices paid — and for firms that bill in Spanish as well as English.
Choose MyCase if
- You want a client portal, document storage and calendaring alongside billing, from one vendor.
- Your firm is small and one general-purpose system is simpler than a specialized one plus something else.
- Your billing is mostly hourly and domestic, without LEDES or bilingual requirements.
Choose ModusBill if
- You bill clients who read Spanish, and want their invoice, their email and their payment page in Spanish while your staff work in English, or the reverse.
- You hold client funds in trust and want a ledger that cannot go negative and an audit trail nobody can edit.
- Corporate or insurance clients require LEDES files and you have had invoices rejected before.
- You want every feature at one per-user price.

Moving from MyCase to ModusBill
Export Contacts, Cases, Time Entries, Expenses, Invoices and Payments from MyCase as CSV. Start an import in ModusBill with the MyCase preset and upload the files. ModusBill maps case numbers to matter numbers, proposes the rest of the mapping for you to confirm, asks you to match staff names to ModusBill users and to pick a trust account for opening balances, then validates every row and shows what will be created before anything is written. Invoice numbers, dates and balances come across as they were, and the import can be undone.
