Questions

Pricing, answered plainly

ModusBill is priced per user, per month. Firms with 1–10 users pay $30 per user per month, firms with 11–25 users pay $27, and firms with 26 or more users pay $24. The rate that applies to your firm applies to every seat, not only the ones above the threshold. Paying for the year up front takes $3 a month off every seat, in every band.

Yes — your first 30 days are free. Not a limited edition or a sample data set: the whole product, every feature, for your whole firm, with your own clients and your own work in it. Billing starts when the trial ends, and if you walk away before then there is nothing to pay and nothing to cancel.

Yes, and it is the cheaper way to buy. Paid yearly a seat is $27 a month in the Practice band, $24 in Firm and $21 in Scale — $3 a month off whatever your band pays monthly, or $36 a seat over the year. You are billed once for the twelve months, and the free trial comes first either way.

The lower rate applies to your whole firm from the next billing period. A firm that grows from 10 users to 11 moves from $30 to $27 on every seat — adding the eleventh user lowers the bill per person.

No. Time tracking, flat fees, invoicing, online payments, recurring billing, the QuickBooks Online connection, A/R reporting, role-based access and two-factor authentication are in every tier, as are IOLTA trust accounting and LEDES 1998B export for the firms that need them. The bands price volume, not capability.

No. Law firms and accounting firms pay the same per-user price and get the same product; what differs is which parts are switched on. An accounting firm works in engagements with recurring billing and the QuickBooks Online connection, a law firm works in matters with IOLTA trust accounting and LEDES export, and everything else is shared.

No. The QuickBooks Online connection is included in every tier, with no per-invoice or per-sync charge. Invoices, customers and payments raised in QuickBooks are brought into ModusBill, and payments recorded in ModusBill are written back against the same invoice. QuickBooks Desktop is not supported.

Yes. Each client has a trust ledger inside the firm's IOLTA account, with an optional ledger per matter. A ledger can never go negative, so one client's funds cannot pay another's bill. Entries are append-only — a correction is a reversing entry beside the original, and every line records who moved the money and when. Monthly three-way reconciliation compares the bank statement against the book balance and the sum of client ledgers, and stores a printable record.

Coming soon. You will send a secure request for a set amount; the client pays by card and the full amount is deposited into the trust account, with processing fees taken from the operating account rather than out of client funds — a deposit shorted by a card fee is exactly the trust-accounting violation ModusBill exists to prevent. Today, trust deposits are recorded from checks, wires and cash.

There is no setup fee. On monthly billing you pay per active user and change your seat count as the firm changes, with no term to serve out. Annual billing is a twelve-month commitment — that is what the discount is for — and you can add seats mid-year at the annual rate.

Yes. Each invoice can be sent with a secure payment link, and firms connect Stripe or PlaceToPay to accept card payments. Completed payments post back to the invoice automatically.

Yes. Each user chooses the language they work in, and each client is billed in theirs — invoice emails follow the client's language, not the sender's.
