ModusBill vs PracticePanther
PracticePanther sells a single subscription that covers case management, client intake, calendaring, documents and billing. It is a good fit for a small firm that wants one login for everything. ModusBill covers the billing, trust and payment part only, and goes deeper on it: trust ledgers with enforced safeguards, LEDES export in every tier, and invoicing in the client's language.
Choose PracticePanther if
- You want intake forms, a client portal, calendaring and case files in the same place as billing.
- Your billing needs are straightforward and the rest of the suite is what you would use daily.
- You value a large ecosystem of add-ons over depth in the billing module.
Choose ModusBill if
- Billing is where your month goes wrong: write-downs, trust transfers, reconciliations and e-billing rejections.
- You hold client funds in trust and want the system, not a procedure, to stop a ledger going negative.
- Some of your clients read Spanish and you want them billed in it without a second workflow.
- You would rather pay one per-user price than choose a tier.

Moving from PracticePanther to ModusBill
Export Contacts, Matters, Time Entries, Expenses, Invoices and Payments from PracticePanther's reports as CSV. Start an import in ModusBill with the PracticePanther preset and upload the files. ModusBill proposes the column mapping for you to confirm, asks you to match timekeeper names to ModusBill users and to choose a trust account for opening balances, then validates every row and shows what will be created, matched or skipped before anything is written. Outstanding invoices keep their numbers and due dates so A/R aging is right from the first day, and the import can be undone if a file was wrong.
